Preschool theme this week was about dinosaurs. We read stories, played with imaginary dinosaurs, painted wooden dinosaurs and then made dinosaur fossils. After reading the story, Fossils Tell of Long Ago, written by Aliki, the children learned that dinosaurs do not live today; they are extinct. They were so excited to then make their own fossils.
As a group, we followed the directions on how to make dinosaur fossils. We mixed flour, salt and water to make dough. Then we formed the dough into balls. Each child flattened out their ball of dough and pressed a small dinosaur into it to leave an imprint. The dough was then placed into a warmer to dry out overnight. The children were so excited to see the fossils they had made from their dinosaurs.
