In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Pre-Kindergarten class watched a video that taught us what an honorable, wonderful man he was. We learned about Dr. King’s dream which was for all people to be treated fairly and with respect. We then did a little experiment. The children were told that their crayons were going to be friends. The children were asked to choose one crayon from their entire pack. They did not know that Mrs. Davidson had also picked a color. Every child was asked to show the color they chose. If their color did not match Mrs. Davidson’s they were told they could not be friends. If the color of their crayon matched they could be friends. At first, there were some very unhappy faces, even a few tears. Through words of encouragement, the children learned a wonderful lesson in understanding Dr. King’s dream. We learned that Dr. King used his voice to make a better world for us all.
