Mrs. Callahan’s 6th graders are doing a book study on a book by Gold Star Father Khizr Khan.
Khan is an immigrant from Pakistan and his son Humayan was an officer in the army. Humayan was killed in action in Afghanistan protecting his troops. His book ” This Is Our Constitution; What It Is and Why It Matters.” is a highly personal account of his passion for the constitution and our nation’s founding documents. Students are working in book circles answering questions related to assigned readings and taking turns being discussion leaders while using the Socratic method to lead a group discussion. This book is a nice compliment to our ongoing study of the constitution related to articles of impeachment. The students are engaged in very lively discussions of the book and are thoroughly enjoying this ongoing project.
