Friday October 11 was a fun day in 3rd grade, as our second mystery reader of the year came to read to the class. CJ Rott, Demi’s dad, surprised the students today with the book The Fantastic Jungles of Henri Rousseau.
The Fantastic Jungles of Henri Rousseau is about the French painter Henri Rousseau. He began painting in his early forties and met harsh criticism from his fellow artists for his style of art, which others considered simplistic. Rousseau never let this bother him and he continued to study art and work on his craft. This self taught artist loved the outdoors and developed a unique style of painting scenes of nature where the landscape and animals came alive on his canvases. In the latter part of his life, Rousseau was well-respected by his peers and his work was and still is displayed in museums around the world.
