2nd graders have been learning about materials and their properties and how they are used for different purposes. To show the understanding, the children worked in small groups to design and build a bridge that would cross over a river in a rainy environment.
After brainstorming necessary bridge properties, students tested different materials for strength and absorbency. Bridge models were built and then tested for sturdiness in the rain. All students walked away with a better sense of sharing ideas and compromising, working under a deadline, and the engineering design process.
Here’s to our future engineers!
