In Art Class, Ms. Wisniewski showed the Cedar Hill Prep School 2nd Graders how to create their own colorful Ink. Even though markers dry out, we can still use them to create colorful artwork. After learning about artist Tom Deslongchamp and his unconventional way of using dry Crayola markers, we mixed together rubbing alcohol and a dry marker in a cup. Over time, the leftover pigment from the marker disperses into the rubbing alcohol. The result is a highly pigmented ink with which we can paint! Also trying the experiment with water, we realized we have similar results, but the chemicals in the alcohol mixed with the marker allows for a more saturated pigment as opposed to the water mixture which creates a lower saturation. Through this process we learned that we can make all kinds of art making materials at home, even when we cannot go out and shop for them!
