READING SPECIALIST

Sandra Kusulas

I have always loved reading and was read to by my parents and siblings as a child. I fondly think of the stories we immersed ourselves in, identifying with the characters and imagining the scenarios as we shared them. This passion for storytelling continued in school and with friends as I grew older. Experiences like these foster lifelong learning.

I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Master’s in Reading Specialization from Kean University. I hold the following certifications: Reading Specialist, Elementary Education, Biological Sciences, and a Bilingual endorsement.

I worked as a Bilingual Educator in New Jersey public schools, where I taught basic skills to middle school students with interrupted formal education, Bilingual Science in middle and high school, and served as a Reading Specialist in a Dual Language Elementary School.

Additionally, I worked for the Department of the Army as a Training and Curriculum Specialist for Child Development Services in Germany. I also served as a representative for the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition, assessing portfolios, testing, and interviewing candidates pursuing a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.

Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with students from elementary to high school. I believe that through multi-sensory, hands-on learning experiences, students can enjoy and reach their full potential in reading. After many years of teaching, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of the CHP family.
