Chinese New Year

Both Kindergarten classes celebrated Chinese New Year together on two separate days!! On Monday a parent came in and read a story to the children called, The Story of Nian. Then, the students began making Dragon masks. Dragons are a symbol of strength, goodness and luck!! Another parent came in on Tuesday and read two books, explained the culture and gave goody bags filled with toys to enjoy! The children learned that it is the Year of the Pig!!!

The celebration lasts for 15 days and people eat special foods to symbolize prosperity and family unity!!! Families exchange gifts such as red envelopes containing money. Celebrations include dancing and fireworks! Thank you Elin’s mom and Alayna’s mom!!
