When students returned to classes in September, middle schools all had read Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life,by Wendy Mass. Many students had deep and profound connections with the story and its meaning.
On Friday, May 3, our students had the opportunity to meet the book’s author, Wendy Mass. Wendy Mass is a celebrated author whose work includes titles A Mango Shaped Space, The Willow Falls collection, Every Soul a Star, and her most recent release, Bob. She has also written The Time Jumpers series and the Space Taxi series for younger readers, grades K-2.
Our students were given a presentation by Ms. Mass, in which she engrossed the audience with the her story of how she became a writer, and the journey of taking an idea and turning it into a story. There were two programs, one for our Middle School students, that was followed by a program for grades K- 3.
At the conclusion of each program Ms. Mass took time for book signings. Many students came with their personal books, in which the author wrote a personal message to each student. Cedar Hill Prep also purchased a set of each book for all Language arts classrooms, and these too were signed by Wendy Mass.
The opportunity for our students to meet and talk with a celebrated author was a wonderful experience. We hope to have Ms. Mass make a return visit next year to hold a writers workshop with our students.
