After receiving just hatched caterpillars, 2nd graders carefully observed each stage of the butterfly life cycle. They used hand magnifiers to view changes from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly. The children also compared and contrasted the butterfly life cycle to that of a panda and a frog. Although sad to have the butterflies leave our classroom, the children were thrilled to watch the Painted Lady butterflies fly into their natural habitat!
