The CHP Players celebrated the spring with their production of Shakespeare’s classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. After Terranova exams concluded the first week of June, CHP students were treated to an outdoor promenade performance on the grounds of our campus. With fairy wings and costumes pieces created by our new art teacher Michelle Trusciani and direction by Doc Wiginton, the students’ 90 minute rendition introduced student actors to Shakespearean performance and Elizabethan language. Over thirty middle school students participated in the production that featured sparring lovers, woodland fairies and sprites, and a ragtag drama troupe of “rude mechanicals” rehearsing a play for the Duke of Athen’s wedding. On June 6th, the performance was shared with CHP Community by torchlight as a part of the Performing Arts Annual “Collage Night.” It was a magical evening that the Drama Department would like to recreate with a Shakespeare play every spring. “It’s a great way to introduce the kids to these important plays,” said Doc Wiginton, “These plays were meant to be performed outdoors…and after the long winter it feels great to be out in nature with an amazing play and equally amazing student actors. The kids have come along way since our first production and I can’t wait for the next one!”
