Kindergarten
Why Kindergarten At CHP Is The Best Choice?
Our Kindergarten program maximizes age appropriate challenges within a small group size and supportive atmosphere. We believe in educating the whole child.
Schedule of Academics
Within our kindergarten schedule of learning, Language Arts and Math are taught five days per week. Social Studies and Science are taught in the afternoons and Learning centers are dispersed throughout the week. Our students also enjoy Music, Art and Spanish once per week and Physical Education three times per week.
Public Speaking
Our students engage in many areas where the opportunity for public speaking is presented and embraced. Poetry Day, presentations of projects and Student Star are perfect examples of how our kindergarten students have the confidence to stand up and speak in front of their peers in a fully relaxed manner.
Learning Styles
As experienced teachers we embrace a variety of learning styles that affect how children listen, learn and work. We accommodate these learning styles by starting where each individual student is. We differentiate instruction by presenting information several times, explaining it in different ways, and give more practice to those who need it.
Concrete Experiences
We provide each child with concrete experiences that help each individual feel good about themselves. This opens up an avenue of success. Each student is provided many opportunities to ensure that they will be able to develop intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially.
Active Participants
Kindergarten students are active participants in their own development and learning. We observe and respond to children, help support their current skills and help scaffold them to reach the next milestone in their developmental and learning journey.
Self Regulated Learning
The kindergarten teachers reinforce self-regulated learning that assists students in managing their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions so that they can successfully navigate their learning experiences. Self-regulated students are more engaged in their learning. Motivation, engagement, and self-regulation are the primary determinants of students’ learning outcomes through challenging tasks.
Relationships and Diversity
We believe that children need to be sensitized to a world of many diverse people, cultures, and changing environments. Our students in kindergarten experience growth in the ability to relate to other individuals peacefully and to enjoy the appreciation of the rich diversity of people that he/she encounters. We foster an understanding of diversity by expecting and modeling behavior based on mutual and unconditional respect for self and others. We pursue every available opportunity to celebrate and explore individual and cultural differences within our school/home community.
Opportunities To Make Choices
To make the right choices children need to begin to learn that rules are required for orderly social relationships. Problems are presented for children to solve in problem solving sessions in regard to everyday life, past and present.
Our teachers use the following positive techniques to guide your child’s behavior:
- Set clear, consistent, and appropriate limits for classroom behavior.
- Value mistakes as learning opportunities.
- Redirect children to more appropriate behavior or activity.
- Make eye-contact.
- Listen when children talk about their feelings and frustrations.
- Guide children to resolve their own conflicts and model skills that help children solve their problems.
- We patiently remind children of class rules and their rationale as needed.
- We use effective praise that is immediate, sincere, and specific.
