This past week, our 7th Grade students brought their knowledge about Percentages, Discounts, Mark-up, and Profit into the real world.
For three days, during specific times in the day, they ran “Math Mart,” a marketplace of goods and services, in Mrs. Lekhi’s classroom. Students served fresh waffles, freshly made smoothies, hot chocolate and herbal teas, freshly assembled tacos, cupcakes, brownies, lemonade. They also sold homemade bath and body products, home-made key chains, and provided hair and nail services, locker cleaning, decorating services…and were on-site sketch artists.
From understanding supply and demand, to competition and pricing it right, the students learned several key entrepreneurial lessons. They worked hard, but also made real profits! Every group will be sharing a percentage of their profits toward a Charity of their choice.
